Post apocalyptical ramblings

They said the birds refused to sing and the thermometer fell suddenly every time someone mentioned what happened during the Greatest Depression of the first couple of decades of the 2000’s.

No one dared speak aloud about it, as much in the shame as in the sorrow.

Humankind had collapsed along with the markets. War had broken out, terrorism had flourished, and starvation had taken tens of millions of lives.

In the wake of this calamity sicknesses rained. Hospitals, understaffed and with hardly any working equipment, couldn’t handle people that only years before had been healthy. The countryside became littered with mindless hoboes and families looking for work and food. Gangs took over many suburbs and working for the mafia became one of the few ways of surviving.

From this a couple of those funny little men had arisen. As before in history they referred to collectivistic ideas and promised order. People, desperate as they were, listened and before they knew it the reminisces of the post-depression control-grids and built-up police state was in the hands of totalitarian thugs.

For decade’s war raged on in foreign countries. The entire continent of South America was a battle field.

But the states that still had industries also had nuclear power and so didn’t dare to attack each other. This however changed when a Russian oligarch who had claimed the Urals as his personal kingdom launched missiles at Moscow. The retaliation was swift and still today most of western and southern Russia remains uninhabited. The fall-out was also felt in Europe where a civil war was going on in France and Italy. The Euro-zone shattered and domestic terrorism had killed off the last remaining freedoms in pretty much all countries.

A real nuclear war broke out between India and the new Pakistanian hardcore government. And when a Syrian terrorists blow up a nuclear bomb in an Israeli city the Jews leveled all the major Muslim cities surrounding Israel. An estimated 500 million people dead.

The US had broken up in several parts, with skirmishes flaring up now and again. The US war-machine had almost become stranded in overseas countries and had become in part mercenaries and in part brought home to murder their own countrymen.

Worse still had the new flu been. A mutation of older strains with a death-rate equal to the Spanish flu hundred years earlier had swept the globe and with hardly any money or resources to combat this disease four hundred million people had died.

In the endless procession of souls that wanted to be destroyed by statism and fascist rulers millions more had perished.

Humankind had been on the brink of annihilation.

But here we stand, humans, a hundred years later. The world’s population finally starting to recover. A new abundant energy source has just been invented and the growing number of free libertarian states has emerged to reclaim the earth.

We look towards the future and say - this time with real conviction - that we will never let socialism, statism or progressive movements ever again climb to power.

A new dawn for mankind has emerged from the rubbles like the bird phoenix from fire it was born.

Towards the future we toast to the memory of the men and women that saw the disaster coming and warned about it. They were heroes of their time, but it seem that man needed to be cleansed from his collectivistic tendencies one more time before real freedom and prosperity could find its way into the world.
