Even if the death-toll rises, compare this with the quake that hit Haiti earlier that was much weaker. This is the difference between a very socialized country with warlords running the show and a slightly less socialized country with a so so democracy. A truly capitalist and free country with a populace that knows they live in an earthquake country would hardly have any casualties at all. Yet another reason why leftie polices doesn’t work…

ReplyDeleteThe epicentre of the Haiti earthquake was just next to the capital, while the Chilean one was 100km off the coast, 32km deep. Isn't this a far bigger and more relevant difference in this case?
(Although I agree that a modern capitalist country would fare much better if it was hit by a quake comparable to the Haiti one.)
since the number of aftershocks at a very high level are numerous, I would say no. Of course you have a point, but not a full one. And even if the epicenter a bit further off in one case it was so much stronger that the other one. In essence they are pretty much combatible, but you need to consult a real expert to confirm this.
